Specialty Classes
Art Development
To develop and enhance aesthetic appreciation and skills in the arts our students in grades N-5 are offered weekly art instruction by a New Jersey certified art teacher. In addition, students in grades seven and eight have an opportunity to select an elective that will give them an opportunity to learn pottery and/or mosaics using a hands-on approach to create projects with a pottery wheel and the kiln bought for the school by the Hillel PTA.
A “hands-on” approach is utilized through various media. Students’ art projects are displayed on a regular basis.
Computer Center
A computer center consisting of 28 state of the art computers is available to our students. A computer specialist works with students in grades Nursery-8, instructing them in the rudiments of computer technology and literacy. A computer curriculum lab is available for students in grades 5-8 to enhance research skills and explore software pertinent to content areas.
All classrooms in grades kindergarten through eight will have or have teacher workstations made possible through federal technology initiative grants.
Library/Media Center
Learning to read is probably the most important part of your child’s school experience. You should help your child become a better reader by encouraging him/her to read books on his/her own ability level. We recommend that you use our library facilities to check out desired books.
The classroom teacher and our librarian help children select books according to their interests and reading ability. All are encouraged to share their reading experiences with others through oral and written book reports, letters and creative art. All children are instructed in the proper care and handling of books. If a book is damaged or not returned, the child is required to pay for the damage or loss.
